A request made in faith

“Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.”Joshua 14:12 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Joshua 14–17.

Caleb asks for the hill country connected with the promise made decades earlier. The allocation accounts also record the request of Zelophehad's daughters for their recognised inheritance. Faithful memory and rightful claims appear within the practical work of distributing land.

Caleb's confidence rests on a specific promise, not a universal guarantee that age or difficulty cannot limit us. The daughters' request reminds us that orderly arrangements should protect people who could otherwise be overlooked. Faithfulness includes both courage and fairness.

Consider a duty you have abandoned only because it is demanding, and a fair request someone has been waiting for you to hear. Seek counsel about the first and give the second proper attention. Courage need not come at the expense of justice.
