A blessing cannot purchase a faithful heart
Read in your Bible: Numbers 24–26.
Balaam's final oracles include a star and sceptre arising from Israel. The narrative then turns to Israel's apostasy at Peor and a new census. Hearing words of blessing does not prevent the community from becoming unfaithful.
God's purposes are not defeated by Balak's attempt to hire a curse. Yet covenant privilege is not immunity from the consequences of disobedience. The violent judgment in this ancient crisis is not a commission for modern religious groups to punish those they regard as unfaithful.
Receive God's promises with humility rather than complacency. Examine a compromise that has become easier because it is socially accepted. Seek restoration through truth, repentance and lawful care, never coercion or religious violence.

Faithful Lord, keep Your promises from becoming an excuse for carelessness. Expose compromise, lead me to repentance and make my response to another person's failure truthful, compassionate and free from coercion. Amen.
