A fair response to an overlooked need

“And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.”Acts 6:1 · KJV

Read in your Bible: Acts 4–6.

The early church faces external opposition and internal failure, including dishonesty and a complaint that some widows are being neglected. The apostles organise a response with recognised, trustworthy servants. The complaint becomes an occasion for practical correction rather than a demand for silence.

Growth does not make a community immune to unequal care. Listening to a group's experience need not threaten unity; refusing a credible concern may do more harm. Shared responsibility and clear arrangements help love become dependable rather than merely well intended.

Listen to a concern about unequal treatment without immediately protecting the group's image. Check the facts and help clarify responsibility. Honour practical care as a serious ministry rather than a lesser task beneath public teaching.

A question to sit with

What complaint have I treated as disloyal when it may reveal a real need?

AN EVERYDAY ACT OF LOVE

Investigate one credible concern about unequal care and support a clear practical remedy.

Let us pray

God of the whole community, help us hear overlooked needs. Give us humility to correct unfairness, trustworthy people to carry responsibility and respect for the practical service through which love becomes reliable. Amen.
